March Message from the President of SATA

March 1, 2021

All of us at SATA hope that you and yours made it safely and in good health through this historic cold spell we just had here in San Antonio.  For sure frozen pipes, blackouts and brownouts are the last things we expect during our winter months here!

It’s hard to believe we are already in March 2021 and we continue to deal with COVID-19 and its fallout beyond the disease.  We have just completed getting everyone in my household completely vaccinated.  I personally encourage everyone to get vaccinated against COVID-19 so we can get back to a more normal routine in our lives, sooner rather than later.

Even with safety and health restrictions in place, SATA has leagues going full blast at this time with more coming soon.  Currently we have 8 leagues playing with 175 total teams.  The 65+ and 40+ leagues will be opening soon for team numbers and roster signups.  We just all need to be patient with our crazy weather to get through all the makeup matches.

SATA’s next tournament is the annual Mabry Senior/Super Senior Major Zone to be held March 11-14th.  SATA expects a large turnout for this tournament even with the elimination of the 18+ levels portion provided by the tournament in past years.

SATA is happy to announce the hiring of Nancy Almaraz as its new Program Director.  Nancy, a 4.5 tennis player, is a retired teacher and coach and a USTA official.  She brings with her great enthusiasm for SATA’s programs and a keen interest in SATA’s new collaboration with Morgan’s Wonderland.

As always, please play tennis in a safe manner abiding by all health and safety rules in place at all the various tennis venues.

See you soon on the court!
