Vice President – Programs
​Nominee: Demetrius Hopson
Demetrius has a deep and current knowledge of SATA having previously served as Executive Director, serving on the Strategic Planning Committee and recently being appointed by the board as Facilities Chair. His professional purpose is to “empower youth and fostering community engagement through sport." As a former NCAA Division 1 athlete (football), Demetrius knows the realm of sports and youth development both personally and professionally and is prepared to bring that experience to inform and strengthen SATA programming. In his current position as Director of Sports at the YMCA of San Antonio, Demetrius is responsible for managing facilities and recreational leagues across the metropolitan area. As VP Programs, Demetrius will work to leverage opportunities for SATA to collaborate with the YMCA and other local community organizations to advance community programming for youth and adults, particularly in under-resourced areas and to underserved groups.

Secretary
Nominee: Virginia “Nina” Villalta
Nina works for the City of San Antonio as a Senior Management Analyst in the Department of Human Services. She fully understands the requirements of the secretary position, as she is the recording secretary for several educational commissions at her day job. Her position at the City with its responsibilities reflects on her ability to multitask well. She is energetic, personable, organized and espouses a collaborative style of work to achieve common goals. Nina is well poised to assist SATA in building a stronger working relationship with the City by working alongside other board members and the Executive Director. She is passionate about growing tennis as a lifetime sport and is ready to help SATA provide awareness and accessibility to youth across the city.

At Large (Facilities)
Nominee: Bruce Thompson
Bruce is well known in the tennis community and currently runs the senior men’s league out of the Thousand Oaks YMCA. He is a recently retired licensed clinical social worker with extensive experience in youth counseling and program administration. He has a solid knowledge of the nonprofit sector as a former board member and active volunteer along with some fundraising experience. Bruce is driven by a personal mission to empower youth and finds that SATA’s mission to grow tennis brings allows him to combine his love of the sport with his desire to serve and make a difference in the San Antonio community. He works well in teams and seeks to establish good working relationships with partners. Bruce will be a great advocate for SATA in sharing our mission and understanding of what SATA does on a day-to-day basis.

At Large (City Liaison)
Nominee: Doug McMurry
Doug currently serves on SATA’s Leagues Committee and is well regarded by all. As an association and government professional, he has cultivated extensive government and non-profit experience in San Antonio across multiple sectors including construction, transportation, municipal finance, and Parks and Recreation. Now retired, Doug maintains good working relationships with major actors in city government and is well placed to advocate for SATA. Doug’s leadership style emphasizes teamwork, inclusivity, and long-term strategic vision, which will serve SATA’s mission well.

Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Chair
Nominee: Pablo Cruz
Pablo is a US Navy veteran with extensive experience in running a non-profit as the co-founder of Diablos Out Sports, which is an LGBTQ+ amateur sports organization in San Antonio. Pablo’s definition of DEI is one of inclusivity. He believes that tennis should be open to anyone who wants to try the sport and participate. As SATA’s current DEI Chair, Pablo has begun building strong working relationship across the community with specific goals to grow tennis in San Antonio. Pablo is an avid tennis player and works hard to improve his game. He brings that same level of enthusiasm, focus and intentionality to his role as SATA’s DEI Chair.
